Centres for Migrant Advice (CMAs)
If you consider going abroad for travel, study or work, this website is for you. Centres for Migrant Advice (CMA) are an important part of the Capacity Building in Migration Management Program (CBMMP) administered by the IOM Mission in Ukraine since 2005.
CMAs are focused on migrants’ needs. CMA specialists provide advice to foreigners in Ukraine and to Ukrainians who either intend to go abroad or have returned from abroad and need help in readjustment. Access to credible information is indispensable for someone who considers going abroad for work, study or travel. Any decision should be based on legitimate information to minimize risks associated with being away from family and friends in a foreign place with different legal and cultural practices.
CMAs help individuals interested in going abroad to clarify current realities of travelling outside of Ukraine and implications of irregular entry and residence in foreign countries. Going abroad presents surprises; CMAs aim to ensure that the surprises are not damaging.

Capacity Building in Migration Management Programme (CBMMP)
The Capacity Building in Migration Management Program is one of the programmes run by the IOM Mission in Ukraine. It was designed to assist the Ukrainian Government in establishing an effective migration management system.
Within the framework of the CBMM Programme, the IOM Mission in Ukraine collaborated with Ukrainian NGOs and governmental structures to improve access to information that one needs for safe travel abroad, especially when one intends to work in a foreign country.
GUMIRA Project
The GUMIRA project (January 2009 – December 2010) elaborates on the best practices and objectives set forth in the CBMM Projects (Phases I and II), which ended in 2008. LFunded by the European Union (EU) as well as the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees and the Italian Development Cooperation, GUMIRA enhances the ability of the Government of Ukraine to address its commitments under the EU-Ukraine Readmission Agreement.
Through GUMIRA, the IOM provides financial assistance to three of these Centres (in Ternopil, Kharkiv and Kyiv), which have expanded services to include counselling foreign nationals on rights protection in Ukraine; ensuring adequate response to racially motivated abuses; awareness raising to promote interethnic tolerance, counteracting xenophobic attitudes and discriminatory practices in Ukrainian society.
The other two CMAs receive organizational support from the IOM. The 5 Centres coordinate their efforts to best serve their clients.
IOM Mission in Ukraine
The IOM Mission in Ukraine is part of the world-wide International Organization for Migration (IOM). Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.
