Migrants’ Rights (International Documents)
Human rights overall and the right to freedom of movement in particular are elements of the international migration law. National legislation has to comply with international norms.
International migration law consists of all international legal documents aimed at regulating various migration issues. International migration law was not developed by a single international legislative body, instead, it is a system of legal relations among states as well as among states and individuals and it is effective on bilateral (i.e. when one state signs an agreement with another one), regional and multilateral levels.
For free access to international legislation on human rights in general and migrants’ rights in particular, please visit the website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (in English). Following this link, not only can you read texts of legislative documents but also to check whether a particular country ratified it or not.
